My favorite color is orange. I think it is a wonderful color. When you are getting to know someone, the world-famous question that everyone seems to ask is “What is your favorite color?” Most girls choose a pink, purple, green, or maybe even blue. Guys will choose red or some ‘manly color’ probably somewhere around 9 times out of 10. I say orange. It’s not to be different in any sort of capacity — I say that because it’s true. Most people question my credibility of mind whenever that sentence passes my lips to their ears. How vulgar, how insane is this woman? Is what I assume they are thinking. That’s the look on their face of course. They remark how “bold” it is to love something so ugly. To me it’s far from that.
I think orange is beautiful. You can find it just about anywhere and every time I can promise you, it will leave you happy. It’s rather strange that orange can leave someone happy when it is the only color not linked with an emotion. If I were to ask you what emotion blue resembled, you would say sad. Even the dictionary defines blue as sadness. Red would be anger, yellow would be happiness, green would be jealousy or envy, purple would be royalty, and pink would be love and innocence. Why is it that every color has a feeling except orange? People pay no mind to it seeing as society deemed it ugly.
Orange is found naturally everywhere. For starters, there is a fruit named after the color (or it was the other way around, I am not quite sure what was named first). Orange can be found within the sunsets and sunrises everyone jumps at the chance to see. I know everyone reading this has at least one picture of a sunset on their phone. What color is it mainly? And you loved it so much you took a picture of it. It is the color of the leaves changing and turning summer to autumn. Autumn is a beautifully diverse season: the holidays, the atmosphere, the activities, the foods. It is all wonderful. And what color do you associate with autumn? Then if you are not the biggest autumn enjoyer, think about the warmth of summer. Think about the hot sun and the brightly warm colors. Orange is one of those colors. Maybe spring is your favorite. Those beautiful orange flowers catch the eye of every passerby. Orange can be found in the seashells you collect in the ocean. You collected them because they were pretty, and you hold memories fondly.
Now for me, orange is not just found in nature. I have found joy in it within my personal life too. My first car only held orange LED lights. I love that car and all the memory lanes it drove down. I collect crystals and many of them are orange which brings me much joy. My salt lamp next to my bed emits an orange glow at night. My love for koi fish and their beautiful patterns consisting of whites, blacks, and (you guessed it) orange! My childhood cat was a calico with orange spots. It can also be found deep within the eyes of someone I love. When the light hits it in my most favorite way, I can see specks of gold and orange that remind me they are fallen stardust. And the constellations in the night sky are mostly of white burning stars but on the special, rare occasion, you can spot an orange star shining bright.
I love orange not just for the places I see it in but also for just simply being a pretty color. There is no deep meaning behind this message. All I wanted to write about was how I felt about this matter. Maybe after reading this you won’t judge so harshly on someone’s opinions. Liking something different does not make me more or less than you, it simply adds a bullet point to the list of my personality. Hopefully this made you realize that orange isn’t such a bad color, it is rather lovely. Chose your favorites and honor the favorites of others, it’s what makes you, you! My favorite color is orange.
